Setting Information

Please be sure to ask us if you have any questions about the following. It’s much better to ask than to make incorrect assumptions about the apocalypse. Facts! Go!

The Apocalypse

  • The apocalypse, caused by a global thermonuclear war, happened seven years ago. It is 2019 now. Rumor has it that Iran, North Korea, and the United Kingdom launched their weapons first and targeted a wide varieties of countries.
  • Across the world, the majority of populated terrain sustained nuclear impact or fallout. People who managed to escape now wander the wastes. A handful of the most rugged survivors have managed to find Greenhaven and settle there.

Greenhaven

  • Greenhaven lies less than a day’s journey south from San Francisco. It is located roughly where Pacifica, CA is now.
  • The population of Greenhaven is a little over 30,000, decidedly short of the number of people you folks need to comfortably feed on.
  • None of the residents of Pacifica survived the apocalypse. As such, all current residents of Greenhaven traveled there after the nukes fell.
  • Greenhaven consists of reclaimed pre-apocalypse buildings and newly constructed wooden housing built from the ample lumber supply. You might even find a few treehouses around.
  • Greenhaven seems unaffected by radiation, as its inhabitants never suffer from radiation poisoning. In addition, newcomers tend to recover from their own radiation sickness.
  • Rampant, overgrown plant life sprawls across Greenhaven, including massive trees. The plants grow quickly, enough of which are edible to provide plenty of food. Not that you bloodsuckers care. Farming attempts in Greenhaven have proven unsuccessful due to rapid replenishment of any cleared foliage.
  • Wildlife in Greenhaven includes typically domesticated species: cats, dogs, rats, and some small farm animals like goats. A wider variety of birds, insects, reptiles rodents wander the forest.
  • Three sides of Greenhaven are bounded by forest, and a patchwork wall of scavenged concrete and steel protects the fourth.
  • Greenhaven is within a day’s journey from the Pacific Coast.

Living in Greenhaven

  • There is no internet or cell phone service. Deal with it.
  • Greenhaven uses CB radios for communication. This will be your post-apocalyptic cell phone equivalent. All citizens are given a certain amount of rationed encrypted minutes for their own use. Refer to earlier ST emails for much more information about this.
  • We will assume that you are using your radio unencrypted unless you say otherwise.
  • These rationed radio minutes (Greenbacks) function as currency in Greenhaven. See here for much more information.
  • Greenhaven has electricity, supplied by various reclaimed renewable sources. Running water is supplied to all but the newest homes in the city.
  • Greenhaven residents are a helpful bunch. Whatever their motives, they work together to survive and are willing to help one another, giving the city a slightly communist feel. However, some citizens have started to open up businesses to provide previously unavailable goods and services.
  • While mortals can consume the plentiful plants in Greenhaven, Kindred require blood. Because the population of Greenhaven is relatively small, some Kindred may decide to feed on animals or people in the waste.

People in Greenhaven

  • Maria Green is the mortal Mayor of Greenhaven and along with her Head of Security, Michael Sun, she runs the city effectively. Refer here for much more information about Maria.
  • Maria Green does not tolerate violence, and exiles and brands those who are violent in the city. These people have formed a gang called The Brands which is very aggressive and resides just outside of Greenhaven.

The Wastes

  • There are no major population centers that anyone has found, with the exception of Greenhaven. However, smaller shanty towns have been known to pop up in the wastes.
  • In the wastes, flora and fauna are sparse. Only the hardiest plants and animals were able to survive the nuclear apocalypse, such as shrubs, insects, lizards, cacti, small trees, and rodents.
  • Scavenging is a fun and important pastime. Scavenging parties regularly make the dangerous journey up to the San Fran ruins to seek their fortune and supplies that Greenhaven needs.
